Saulkrasti is located 50 km from Riga, on the east coast of the Gulf of Riga. Part of the territory of Saulkrasti Municipality is taken up by the nature park “Piejūra”, the seacoast section stretches for 17 km and is interesting with its diversity – from the “singing” sand in Lilaste to the stony seashore of Zvejniekciems. It is also possible to view the most enchanting sunsets in Saulkrasti.
History of the town
The seashore with its steep banks and winding streams is one of the most beautiful of its kind in Vidzeme, and it has been a popular vacation destination for a very long time.
In early 19th c. the first summer cottages were built, a new bathing place with the name Neubad (Neibāde) was created and in the mid-19th c. the resort grew extensively.

Recreation possibilities
On sunny and warm summer days when there is no wind, it is possible to rent SUP boards at the bathing place Centre, as well as go on jet-ski rides.
On windy days surfers and kitesurfers gather on the beach next to the café Koklīte.
Adrenaline lovers are invited to the paintball park Bušas, whereas those who enjoy horseback riding are welcome at Saules zirgi to take pleasure from horse rides and romantic sunsets on the beach.
Cycling enthusiasts can rent bicycles and try out routes of various difficulties not only in Saulkrasti, but along the whole coast of Vidzeme.
